The Impact of Technology on Early Learning

Image
The perspective of early childhood education is rapidly evolving, pushed by increasing technology integration into classrooms and homes. While some educators and parents promote the benefits of digital tools for young learners, others express concerns about the potential issues. This blog post will explore the multifaceted impact of technology on early learning, examining both the advantages and the challenges it presents. Also, I recommend some useful practices to get the best out of technology in learning. In my experience as a kindergarten teacher, there are a lot of learning opportunities and experiences for children. Technology is here with us and there is no way to return it. Teachers and parents need to get on that train to drive and explore the world of good resources available for us to use and at the same time discard what is not useful to us. The Role of Technology in Early Learning Technology has become an important key of modern education, offering a range of tools designe...

Balancing Act: Healthy Resolutions for Teachers in 2024

Image
In the dynamic world of education, each day presents new challenges and opportunities. Many of these challenges are hard enough resulting in stressful experiences, bad health conditions, and other feelings of burnout and dislike. The job that one day you committed with love and passion begins to break and leave you unmotivated, tired, and sick. Probably in a worse way than I described here. With all these situations we need to do something!  After living and experiencing all these difficulties every day in my classroom, I decided to reflect and make changes for myself,  my family, and the job I still love.  I concluded that it is my responsibility and only mine. I have the obligation of taking care of myself. I decided that the number one resolution for me as a teacher in this new year 2024 is to prioritize my health and well-being.  Teachers, your life is important. Your life matters! Teachers, your number one resolution in 2024 must be to prioritize your health and...

Holistic development in early childhood

Image
As parents, early childhood educators, and caregivers we wish with all our hearts to see our children thriving and developing healthful in all ages, aspects, and stages of their lives. We want our work wonderfully done! That's when we refer to the holistic development approach. The holistic development approach means that we focus on all aspects of the development of children, not just their academic performance. The holistic development of a child refers to the overall growth and progress of a child in various aspects of their life, including physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and moral domains. It recognizes that children are complex beings, and their development is interconnected and interdependent across these different areas. Areas connected to the holistic development The areas connected to holistic development are described separately for understanding, but it is essential to keep thinking about the child as a whole and how the experiences that encourage development a...

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) at home and at school

Image
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a psychiatric disorder that primarily affects children and adolescents. It is characterized by a persistent pattern of disobedient, argumentative, and defiant behavior towards authority figures, such as parents, teachers, and other adults. This behavior goes beyond the normal range of oppositional and defiant behavior typically seen in children. In this last academic year (2022-2023) I worked in my kindergarten classroom with an ODD student. We experienced a wide variety of challenges but on the other hand a lot more moments of learning, understanding, growth, and love. I grew as a professional. I grew as a person.  I had to take time for me to learn and read about ODD to help and support this student and the rest of the group. Luckily, I count on a professional staff of multiple disciplines that was very supportive every day. All our efforts resulted in a student who completed the kindergarten grade with great progress and learning. It was no...

Reaching the finish line on virtual teaching in this academic year: Goals and learning accomplished

Image
This whole year of virtual teaching will be remembered as the most challenging time (or close to that) for educators and administrators. Also, for students and families facing equal challenges. Those challenges resulted in learning a lot from ourselves and others. The coronavirus pandemic brought us learning and moments of reflection in all aspects that involve our lives. Even more, we need to be clear that virtual teaching and remote learning will remain with us. There were a lot of positive experiences in that! I hope that for each educator involved in virtual teaching, the experience had become as strengthening and empowering as it was for me. From here on, I am not the same teacher... I grew professionally, I got inspired, and I engaged better and more profoundly with my students and their families. That is something I'm going to continue practicing and being aware of. As a kindergarten teacher, I had beautiful and unforgettable moments with all students. I also understood each...
